    About This Recipe

When mango season comes around, there's nothing I want more than this sweet and tangy mango salsa! It's bright, juicy, and just a tad spicy. It's a perfect example of how a few simple ingredients can come together to make something delicious. This recipe takes only about 10 minutes to make- just the time to chop all the vegetables and mix everything together.

While testing this recipe, I decided to try making it with frozen mangos as well, since a lot of you have asked me about using frozen fruit in the past. And my conclusion is that fresh mango wins every time. Of course, frozen does work, but it just lacks that freshness and flavor that fresh mangos have. Not to mention, fresh mangos are a bit firmer, which makes every bite more enjoyable.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

These are the ingredients you need to make the best mango salsa. You can find the full list with measurements in the recipe card below.

Mango: My favorite mangoes to use are ataulfo mangoes (also known as champagne or honey mangoes). They have a very sweet and creamy texture. Let them ripen on your counter until they are a deep orange-yellow and the skin is just slightly wrinkling. This means they are very sweet and ripe.

Red bell pepper: It adds a bit of crunch, sweetness, and a gorgeous pop of color. Any color of bell pepper works if that's what you have.

Red onion: For a little sharpness and bite. If raw red onion is too intense for you, you can soak the diced onions in cold water for 15 minutes to mellow out their flavor.

Jalapeno: Brings a bit of heat and complexity. You can use more or less depending on your spice preference, or leave it out entirely.

Lime juice: Freshly squeezed! It brightens all the flavors. Lemon juice works as well.

Cilantro: Adds lots of fresh flavor. If you're not a fan of cilantro, you can use parsley or even mint.

Salt: Makes all the flavors pop!

    Instructions

    all ingredients arranged in bowl.

STEP 1: In a medium bowl, combine all the ingredients. Taste and adjust the lime juice or salt as needed. If mangoes are not very sweet, add a drizzle of honey. Chill until ready to serve. Salsa will last for 4 days in the fridge.

I'm gonna be making this mango salsa all summer! It's fresh, sweet, tangy, and so delicious. Eat it with tortilla chips, slathered on grilled meat, or on tacos.
