Hi there! My name is Grumpy (well it's not my real name, but it's what I go by online). I'm a passionate home cook, foodie, and cookbook collector. When I haven't eaten in a while, I start to look a little grumpy...that's why this blog is called Grumpy Recipes!
How it all started
My passion for cooking started when I was only seven years old. I remember buying homemade rice krispies from a school bake sale and being completely blown away by how good they tasted. I started researching how to make them at home, and then soon I was cooking and baking all sorts of things.
My parents used to take afternoon naps before they headed to work, and I used to do a lot of baking during that time. I was barely 4 feet tall but I was making cookies, muffins, cakes, and even savory foods like fried rice. I stopped cooking as much in high school because my studies were taking over my life, but once I finished post secondary, I got fully into my passion again. Since then, I've been cooking almost every day.
What to expect from this blog
You will find all my favorite recipes with easy step-by-step instructions. I try to include pictures whenever I feel they are useful, and I aim to be 100% transparent and honest in every post.
One thing that I absolutely hate about modern-day food blogs is that many of them are dishonest. For example, I've been cooking for so long that I can tell right away when a recipe will be crispy or not, but every food blogger will claim their food is crispy regardless of the outcome. If I say something is crispy, then I really mean it. If you don't believe me, just try my honey garlic spare ribs.
My cooking experience
I will be completely honest, I do not have a lot of professional cooking experience. I've worked in a few restaurants during university, but I'm mostly just a passionate home cook.
I started cooking when I was seven years old and that passion never really stopped. I think about food and cooking almost every hour of the day (unless I'm watching K Dramas with my wife or playing League of Legends with my friends). I have over 200 cookbooks, and I'm constantly looking for ideas and ways to improve. I've clocked in over 10,000 hours of cooking now, but I still feel like I'm learning every day. I hope that by reading this blog, you can learn something new as well 🙂.
My favorite cuisines
Of course, I love to cook, but I also love to eat. My favorite foods are Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indian. I grew up in a Chinese household, so you will see a ton of Chinese recipes on this blog. But in general, I eat almost anything, so if I find something tasty, you'll eventually find it on my blog!
Want to connect with me?
I would love to connect with more of my readers. I get the occasional comments on my blog and social media (which I love), but I would love to have more conversations with you guys (right now, if you leave a comment on a recipe, there is no way for me to notify you that I replied, so most of the time I just reply into the abyss, lol). Feel free to email me at [email protected] at any time, whether it's a cooking question, comment, or anything at all. Let's keep the conversation going. Happy cooking!
