    About This Recipe

I would not say I'm the biggest fan of ham and cheese, so you might be a little surprised to see this recipe on my blog. When I was a kid, my mom used to make me a ham and cheese sandwich for school- every single day. They were not great. Just one slice of ham, one slice of cheese, the most basic of condiments, and plain old Wonder Bread. For anyone else who grew up poor, I think you know what I'm talking about.

Nowadays, I will only eat ham and cheese when it's in slider form- slathered with butter sauce and wrapped in soft, Hawaiian rolls.

Ham and cheese sliders are really easy to throw together- it only takes 5 minutes of prep and maybe 30 minutes of baking. I love bringing them to parties and watching everyone devour them. For the optimal taste, I always ask the host if I can bake them at their house. That way, they stay nice and warm, and the cheese is still melty.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Hawaiian rolls: You can find these in the bakery section of most grocery stores. They come in a red bag and are super soft and fluffy.

Ham: Any type of ham will work, but when it comes to deli ham, you get what you pay for. If you're making this for a crowd, I recommend splurging a bit more on a high-quality brand.

Swiss cheese: This is the classic cheese to use for ham and cheese sliders. But you can use any cheese you like. A sharp cheddar, Gruyere, or provolone would all be delicious.

For the butter sauce: You'll need melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.

    Instructions

    butter mixture in bowl.

STEP 1: In a small bowl, combine the butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.

STEP 2: Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally with a serrated knife. Place in the baking dish.

    ham layer on sliders.

STEP 3: Layer ½ the ham, followed by all the cheese, followed by ½ the ham.

STEP 4: Place the top half of the rolls over the ham. Pour the Butter mixture evenly over the rolls. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 5 minutes until the tops are golden.

sliders cut into pieces and arranged on parchment paper.

    STEP 5: Slice and serve.
