    About This Recipe

You won't believe how easy it is to make these sausage balls from scratch. The secret is using Bisquick baking mix, which saves you tons of time on measuring different ingredients. Also, there's no special equipment needed- you just mix everything together in a bowl, then roll them into balls with your hands! After a short bake, you'll have perfectly golden, cheesy sausage balls perfect for a grab-and-go breakfast.

This recipe is incredibly easy. The sausage balls come together without any kneading, rolling, or chilling. All you do is combine the ingredients in a bowl. You don't even have to mix them too much, as that's the key to keeping them tender! They're truly hard to mess up. I love serving them with a side of fresh fruit for a well-balanced breakfast.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Ignore the blurry part in the photo. I actually included another ingredient by mistake.

Bisquick: Of course, we need some Bisquick! Make sure your Bisquick is not expired, as the baking powder may not work as effectively.

Spicy pork sausage: If you can't find ground sausage, you can just get Italian sausages and remove the casings.

Cheddar cheese: I recommend shredding your own cheddar from a block, as the flavor is better and it melts more smoothly. Pre-shredded cheese usually has a coating that prevents it from melting as smoothly.

Milk: Whole milk is perfect for the richest crumb, but you can use 2%, 1%, or skim milk if that's all you have.

    Instructions

    Italian sausages crumbled in bowl.

STEP 1: If you're using Italian sausages, remove the casings and crumble the sausage in a large bowl. I use a potato masher to crumble them easily.

    dough combined in bowl.

STEP 2: Add the rest of the ingredients and use your hands to mix until well combined.

dough balls arranged on parchment-lined baking sheet.

STEP 3: Roll the meat into small balls (about 2-3 tablespoons each) and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. For uniform balls, use a cookie dough scoop or an ice cream scoop to portion out the dough.

sausage balls after baking; golden brown and slightly spread out.

STEP 4: Bake for 23-25 minutes, or until lightly browned on top. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
