About This Recipe
Some days, I feel too lazy to cook, but I'm also too tired to leave the house. On those days, I turn to extremely simple recipes - ones that require minimal ingredients, use minimal dishes, and can be done quickly. Since I got my air fryer, these air-fried chicken wings have been my go-to!
They are CRISPY, JUICY, and SO FLAVORFUL. All you need is one bowl and about 25 minutes. Truly one of the best meals to make on a busy weeknight. Here's how I do it:
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. This takes around 2-3 minutes.
- Place them in a bowl, add olive oil and spices, and toss to coat evenly (1 minute).
- Coat with cornstarch and flour, and toss again (1 minute).
- Arrange the wings in the air-fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes per side.
They come out beautifully crispy and golden brown. When my wife came home from work, she actually thought I had deep-fried these!
I love to serve them with some simple chopped vegetables, like carrots or celery - the extra freshness balances with the wings very well. If I'm feeling extra hungry, I'll make some rice too. But since it's currently Spring, I served these with a side of asparagus.
Key Ingredients

Chicken wings: I prefer using "split" chicken wings (split into drumettes and flats) because they're easier to arrange in the basket. For this recipe, I used about 1 pound, which is the most that my air fryer can fit in a single layer.
Olive oil: Helps the spices stick to the chicken.
Seasonings: Salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika.
Flour & cornstarch: These form the crispy coating on the outside. I like using a combination of both flour and cornstarch. Flour helps them develop a better color, and cornstarch makes them extra crispy.
Instructions

STEP 1: Add the wings to a large bowl. Add the olive oil and spices and toss to coat evenly.

STEP 2: Mix the flour and cornstarch in a small bowl, then toss with the wings.

STEP 3: Arrange the wings in the air-fryer basket, ideally not touching each other.

STEP 4: Air-fry at 400°F for 8 minutes on each side. If they're not dark enough, just air-fry for a few more minutes.

Thank you for sharing this recipe, wish you could see my happy dance. Recipe is spot on, timing, technique and temperature. Leftovers are delicious. I have to share that I did put a little bit of water under me tray (if you have a rack/tray) and that helped. I've tested a few of these air fryer techniques, and this is a the best one.

Yummy! Yummy!
I have shared the recipe with everyone I know who has an air fryer!!
Do you have a recipe for salt and pepper wings by chance?
Grumpy
Yay, so glad u liked it! By salt and pepper, do you mean the Chinese style of salt and pepper wings? If so, no I do not have a recipe on my site, but I have made it many times at home. I'll look into adding it here!
Sheri
Do you start with frozen chicken wings or defrosted?
Grumpy
They should be defrosted first
