I present to you one of the easiest and most versatile sauces to make- Honey Mustard Sauce! It's creamy, tangy, and incredibly easy to make. I love tossing it with salads or using it as a dressing for chicken, pork, ham, salmon, vegetables, pretzels, and more. It only takes 5 minutes to make- basically, the time it takes to find the ingredients in your fridge!

    About This Recipe

I've been making this honey mustard sauce for as long as I can remember. My earliest memory of making it was back in 2005-2007 when my family used to get the honey mustard chicken salads from Dairy Queen. I remember it was so freaking amazing. Grilled chicken, iceberg lettuce, purple cabbage, garnished with crispy bacon bits, cheddar cheese, and of course, honey mustard sauce.

I remember wanting to make it at home because the store-bought versions were not nearly as good. The secret I've found is to add mayonnaise to the dressing. It makes it so much creamier and balances the tanginess of the mustard. Once I did that, I never looked back.

This honey mustard sauce is extremely versatile. Here are just a couple of ideas:

    • Tossed with salads
    • Dip for chicken, vegetables, and soft pretzels
    • Sauce in sandwiches and subs (just like Subway!)
    • Slathered over grilled chicken, pork chops, ham, and salmon. For grilled meat and fish, I like to substitute some of the Dijon mustard with the grainy kind- it adds a nice texture.

    Key Ingredients

    required ingredients prepped in bowls.

You will need honey, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, and a dash of cayenne pepper. The red wine vinegar can be substituted for other vinegar, like white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. But I think the bold and extra-sharp taste of red wine vinegar makes the sauce taste the best.

Thanks for sharing your recipe. I added about two tbsps of grainy mustard, to incorporate the 1/4 cup.
