This Apple Crisp has warm, cinnamon apples underneath a crunchy oat and butter streusel. It's one of my favorite fall desserts, and it tastes amazing with peak-season apples.

    About This Recipe

This apple crisp recipe is one of the easiest fall desserts! All you do is toss the filling together in one bowl, and then mix up the topping in another. Then layer them into a baking dish and bake!

When I was a kid, we had a big apple tree in our neighborhood. I'd ride my bike to the tree and pick the apples straight from the branches, and bring them home to make this recipe. It was always my favorite way to enjoy autumn/fall.

This recipes taste best served with a side of vanilla ice cream. When you take your first bite, you'll be surprised that something so comforting could be so simple to make. There's just nothing better than baked apples with cinnamon.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Apples: Any variety of apples can be used, but my preference is Granny Smith apples. They are very tart and hold up well in baked recipes.

Brown sugar: We need brown sugar for both the filling and the streusel. If you don't have brown sugar, you could also use white sugar, but I would suggest adding a bit more cinnamon and nutmeg.

Cinnamon and nutmeg: These are the only spices you need to make a delicious apple crisp.

Salt: To bring out all the flavors.

Flour: This is for the streusel topping. You have to cut the butter into the flour, and then they will crisp up in the oven.

Oats: I love adding oats for some extra crunch, and it's also a healthy option because oats have lots of fiber. You can use either quick oats OR non-quick oats. Quick oats are just presteamed, so they cook faster, but since we're cooking the apple crisp for 35 minutes, regular oats are fine too.

Butter: Make sure your butter is cold, as we want to be able to cut it into the flour.
