    These Air Fryer Shrimp Chips are much easier to make than deep-frying, but to be completely honest, they do not puff up as much as when they are deep-fried. However, they are still very good. I tested air-frying them with and without oil and I prefer the version without oil.

    Shrimp chips have always been one of my favorite snacks to munch on. They're crispy and puffy, and I used to be able to finish a whole bowl to myself. My mom used to fry big batches of them when we were kids and it was always lots of fun to watch them puff up in the oil.

    Where to buy shrimp chips?

    I actually had a really hard time finding these at my Asian grocery store. I did not find them on my first trip so I asked my mom and she told me to check the aisle with the rice paper. This is the brand I found:

    package of prawn crackers.

    As you can see, they are also called "prawn crackers".

    Do I need to spray with oil?

    The short answer is no. The shrimp/prawn chips will puff up regardless of whether you add oil or not. In my opinion, the chips taste much better without adding oil. I find the air-fried chips do not absorb the oil at all so the outside gets really greasy. Feel free to try both methods and see what you prefer.
