    About This Recipe

The first time I had pasta chips was at a Korean fried chicken restaurant, and they've been popping up in my mind ever since. They were so crispy, delicious, and so satisfying to eat. Thank god they were a free appetizer and you couldn't order them separately, because I probably would've gone bankrupt.

This weekend, I finally decided to try making them at home. I looked at a few videos online, and apparently, they deep-fry them. But I didn't want to break out a pot of oil, so I tried air-frying them instead, and I think they turned out great! My wife said they tasted very similar, and we both felt less guilty about eating them since they had way less oil.

The key to pasta chips is to boil the pasta before air-frying it. The moisture inside them will evaporate during air frying, and puff them up slightly.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Pasta: I use bow tie pasta because I feel like its shape gives it a better crunch. You can use any small pasta, like rotini or rigatoni.

Olive oil: Oil helps crisp up the pasta chips. I use olive oil, but any neutral-flavored oil can be used.

Parmesan: Gives a nutty/cheesy flavor to the pasta chips! I use the "fake" Kraft Parmesan from the non-perishables section of the grocery store.

Seasonings: You'll need garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Feel free to swap these with whatever your favorite seasoning blend is. You can also skip this and just sprinkle on popcorn seasoning at the end of cooking.

    Instructions

    cooked pasta draining in colander.

STEP 1: Cook the pasta according to the package instructions. For pasta chips, you want to overcook the pasta a bit since we don't want any uncooked parts, otherwise those chips will come out chewy. Drain and set aside.

STEP 2: In a large bowl, toss the cooked pasta with the olive oil, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Spread the pasta in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may have to do two batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

STEP 3: Air fry at 400°F for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket a few times for even cooking. Serve with your sauce of choice (marinara is my favorite) or drizzle with popcorn seasoning!
