Learn to make pizza sauce from a can of tomato paste! Made with only 7 ingredients in just 5 minutes, this simple, no-cook recipe is quick, easy, and incredibly flavorful.

    About This Recipe

This recipe comes from my experience working in my family's pizza restaurant! My dad always told me the secret to flavorful pizza sauce is to use lots of dried herbs and garlic. I remember we would make our pizza sauce in a giant industrial bucket, and my dad would literally scoop mounds of dried herbs into the mixture. Customers always raved about our sauce, so you know we did it right.

This recipe is based on what we did at our restaurant, but instead of using tomato sauce, it's made with tomato paste! I am definitely someone who has run out of tomato sauce at home, so knowing you can make it with tomato paste has been a game-changer.

Tomato paste is essentially tomato sauce with most of the water removed. So to make pizza sauce, all we need to do is add some water to bring it back to a tomato sauce consistency, and of course, mix in the rest of the ingredients, like herbs, garlic, and olive oil.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

This recipe makes about 1.25 cups of pizza sauce, which is enough for about 3-4 medium pizzas. If you want to make more, you can easily scale the recipe up.

Tomato paste: Of course we need some tomato paste! This is what makes the recipe so quick.

Olive oil: Adds richness and helps balance the tanginess of the tomatoes for a well-rounded sauce.

Water: I use about ½ cup to rehydrate the tomato paste to the perfect spreadable consistency.

Italian seasoning: Italian seasoning is a seasoning blend that contains dried herbs, like oregano, basil, marjoram, and thyme. It's an easy way to add lots of flavor without having to measure individual spices

Oregano: The main herb in pizza sauce is oregano, so I add a bit more.

Garlic powder: This is a must for a superb pizza sauce flavor. You can also use freshly minced or grated garlic.

Salt and pepper: To make all the flavors pop. Keep in mind that pizza sauce should be slightly salty, as most pizza toppings do not contain salt aside from deli meats.

    Instructions

spices added on top of tomato paste.

STEP 1: In a medium bowl, whisk all the ingredients together. Use immediately or refrigerate for up to one week. For a typical pizza, I use about ⅓ cup of sauce.
