This homemade Blue Cheese Dressing is my favorite salad dressing. It's super easy to make and great for wings, salads, and even burgers. Creamy, tangy, and perfectly chunky!

    About This Recipe

I didn't always like blue cheese. Growing up, I was actually quite appalled by the idea of it. Mold on cheese? Why would anyone eat that?

But like most childhood food preferences, I eventually grew out of it, and soon enough, I was actually enjoying the taste of it. This blue cheese salad dressing is now one of my favorite salad dressings!

The flavor is rich, creamy, and bright, made with blue cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, and a generous squeeze of lemon juice. Some recipes might have you think buttermilk is required, but I never use it, and it always comes out delicious. However, one benefit of buttermilk is that it can be used to thin out the dressing if it's too thick, but you can easily use regular milk for this purpose as well.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Blue cheese: You can either use pre-crumbled blue cheese or buy a block and crumble it yourself. Use whatever you prefer. I do not find the brand or variety matters much in this recipe.

Mayonnaise & sour cream: We'll need both to make the dressing's creamy base. If you don't have sour cream, you can also use Greek yogurt!

Lemon juice: For acidity. Using freshly squeezed lemon juice is a must here because we want that fresh flavor that you cannot get from a bottle.

Garlic: Adds a pungent flavor that brings the dressing to life. Just one clove is needed.

Salt & pepper: Add ½ a teaspoon each or to your own taste.

Milk: This is optional, but if you like a thinner dressing, you can add a tiny bit.

    Instructions

all ingredients mixed together in bowl.

STEP 1: Combine the blue cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Skip the store-bought and make homemade blue dressing instead. It's super easy to make and tastes 1000x better.
