In a large bowl, combine the chicken thighs, salt, black pepper, and ½ cup of barbecue sauce. Cover and let it rest in the fridge for at least 40 minutes or up to 24 hours.
When you're ready to cook, preheat your oven to broil and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Position the rack so your chicken will be 4-5 inches from the heating element.
Spread the chicken on the prepared baking sheet.
Broil for 7 minutes on the first side, then remove from the oven and turn the pieces over. Brush with more barbecue sauce and broil for another 7 minutes.
Turn the pieces again and brush with the remaining barbecue sauce. Broil for 4-5 minutes, until the sauce is charred and the chicken is cooked through.
