Nothing beats Potatoes au Gratin baked until bubbly and crisp- tender layers of potatoes and onions drenched in the most addictive creamy, cheesy sauce. Need I say more?
Preheat your oven to 400℉ and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Layer ½ of the potatoes in the bottom of the casserole dish, followed by the onions and the remaining potatoes. Set aside.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
While whisking constantly, add the milk, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the mixture boils, then cook for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese.
Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes and onions. Cover with foil and bake for 50-60 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden on top.
