I know it's called milk toast but I prefer using half and half because it tastes better. I love the combination of textures, from the custardy inside to the crispy sugar on the outside. This is so much easier than French toast!
In a small bowl, mix together the butter and sugar.
Spread the butter mixture onto both sides of each bread slice.
Heat a nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Place one bread slice in the center of the pan. Pour three tablespoons of milk over the bread and let it overflow on the edges of the crust. Move the bread around to soak up the milk.
Cook for bread for 2 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 2 minutes. Repeat with the other slice of bread.
I like to serve this with a drizzle of maple syrup and whipped cream.
