Marinara Sauce

This is the BEST homemade marinara sauce. I've experimented with this recipe for years and you do not need to simmer for hours or use fresh herbs for a delicious tasting marinara. More details in my blog post above.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion (finely diced)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or dried oregano)
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a medium pot over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook for 4-5 minutes until they're soft. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, sugar, Italian seasoning, and salt. Bring to a boil then reduce to a gentle simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes. For a smoother texture, you can use a hand blender to blend the sauce.
  • At this point, the sauce is ready to be enjoyed! You can use it as a pasta sauce, pizza sauce, with chicken parm, or dipping with mozzarella sticks! The sauce will keep for about one week in the fridge.
