Taco Seasoning is one of those items I never buy at the grocery store because it's so easy to make at home. All you need are some pantry staples and a few minutes of time. You can use it right away or keep it in a small baggie in your kitchen for up to 3 months.

This taco seasoning is the same one I use in my ground beef tacos recipe!

    About This Recipe

My wife loves this homemade taco seasoning... and honestly I do too. It's got the perfect balance of smokiness, heat, and spices. We love using it for our favorite beef tacos, but it goes great with any type of protein. Chicken, pork, shrimp, you name it.

I guarantee this taco seasoning will taste better than anything you get from the store. I did a side-by-side taste test with this recipe versus Old El Paso, and my wife preferred this recipe by far. Try it next time you're making tacos, and I think you'll agree.

Also, when you make it at home, you know exactly what's going into it. Store-bought has preservatives, additives, too much salt, MSG, and other things you may not want in your diet. This recipe is just simple pantry staples.

    Key Ingredients

    spices prepped in small bowls.

Here's a picture of all the spices you need. I know it may seem like a lot, but if you do any sort of home cooking at home, chances are you have all of these in your pantry.

I typically do about ¼ teaspoon of red pepper flakes and cayenne pepper. My wife typically cannot handle too much spice (or she'll get digestive symptoms), but this was totally fine for her.

    Instructions

    spices in bowl.

STEP 1: Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl. Use it right away or store it in a plastic baggie for up to 3 months.

overhead shot of ground beef mixed with seasoning in pan.

STEP 2: For tacos, just brown your ground beef, then add the taco seasoning and let it sizzle for 30-90 seconds.

    Homemade Taco Seasoning

I pity the fool who buys taco seasoning from the grocery store. Homemade is so easy and way better.
