Last month, I randomly added a Werther's caramel candy to my coffee and it ended up tasting like a French vanilla coffee. In the past, I have tried a lot of different spices and even buying French vanilla syrup, but this actually tastes the best. Who would have thought? 😀

I blame my dad for this one. My wife and I were staying at my parents' house for a week and he was using his new barista machine to make us coffees every morning. At one point he gave me a Werther's candy, and for no reason at all, I decided to add it to my coffee, and guess what? It tasted really close to a French vanilla!

There was a really nice caramelly flavor to it. When I got home, I tested adding some vanilla extract and it tasted just like the French vanilla from a coffee shop. I was shocked and I even googled it to see if this was a thing, but there was nothing, so I'm posting today to share it with the world!

    What Werther's am I using?

I initially used the original Werther's caramel candy, but feel free to experiment with other options!! I'm sure this will work with any type of Werther's or even another brand of caramel candy.

One important thing is to heat your coffee until it is very hot so that it can melt the candy completely. I found that heating the coffee on the stovetop and stirring it until the candy dissolves is the best. Another thing is the candy can be a choking hazard if it's not melted properly, so make sure you do not drink it before it melts.
